Music Ministry
Our 10-voice chancel choir and 10-member handbell choir represent approximately 25% of the church membership! Choir is a community within a community. It is a time of fun and fellowship, as well as hard work, prayer, and study. The preparation of choral texts presents an opportunity for further immersion in God's Word. The process of learning music and developing it into a form of prayer intensifies awareness of the power of music to minister to God's people.
Those involved in the music ministry at Mayesville Presbyterian Church are committed to cherishing this gift from God, to being good stewards of it, and to do all within our ability to present music that enhances worship and provides an environment conducive to drawing worshippers closer into the presence of God.
In addition to Sunday worship, the church's music ministry offers as a gift to the wider community the traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols (December) and a hymn festival (late April or early May). Both offerings are annual events. A concert series, titled "Sundays at 4", will begin its third season in the fall of 2017. To date, guest artists have included elite choirs such as the University of South Carolina Concert Choir, concert pianists, a professional saxophone/piano duo, an organ program featuring exceptional area organists, a concert cellist, and a trombone choir. The concerts are presented as a free offering to the community.
